Yin Yang

Walking hand-in-hand  late one afternoon on a beach in the North Shore area of Oahu, we enjoyed the sand between our toes while venturing toward ancient lava rocks, jagged in some places regardless of the lapping sea. Being the parents of two incredible children together, and also two children separately, we rarely get time alone. There we were, in paradise enjoying life, and celebrating our 14 year anniversary a few months early. I’m in New York City for Bridal Market every year on our anniversary and my sweet husband is with our younger children…at home, doing homework while I paw through gorgeous wedding dresses, attending parties, and generally having a lot of fun.

I couldn’t think of a better way to document this year together than by having professional photos taken by my friend and fine art photographer, Whitney Huynh of Tulle and Grace, while in Hawaii.

Wedding Story Writer Digital Book

Many vendors and brides all over the world have asked to see our beautiful Wedding Story Writer Legacy Book sample, so we found a solution that will make everyone happy: a digital version! Within the digital version you will find an excerpt of a wedding story, a very special layout, and our beautiful illustrations, this one by famed illustrator and jewelry designer, Astrid Mueller.

Our wedding stories are unique–we interview our clients from the very beginning, cataloging important dates and experiences as the wedding day approaches, and then attending the wedding to complete the wedding story itself. You will have your entire engagement documented, all the way up (and even beyond) your honeymoon–although we’ve never been asked to actually attend the honeymoon. (smile)

We are much more than wedding reporters or writers. We become your confidant, keeping all of your private information private … [read more]

Southern Hospitality

Last week, on a whim, I decided to take a road trip to Atlanta to hang out with my friend, Whitney Huynh of Tulle & Grace. She introduced me to a couple of local wedding vendors, including an incredible letterpress artisan, who wowed me with the impressive paper items he brought with him. We had brunch, and then decided to do a photo shoot, despite the humidity which was killing my hair.

I have to say, Whitney is a truly exceptional photographer. She is an artist. I am no spring chicken by modeling industry standards and although I did model a few times back in the early 2000’s, those days have long since departed, and three children later, here I am on the sidewalk leading up to a beautiful Southern wedding venue, smiling for the camera once again.

And it was fun!… [read more]

Olia Zavozina Couture Designs

Today we’re featuring a fantastic Russian designer based out of Nashville- Olia Zavozina. We noticed her line last fall during Bridal Market, and were eager to meet her this spring.

Zavozina has been designing dresses since childhood and has a great love for fabrics. When designing a gown, she literally plays with the fabric, placing it on a dress form to see how the fabric lays and flows. Once satisfied, only then does she begin her design process, drawing a picture of the future dress, stating to me that her designs are all about the fabric. It’s also about the color. If a dyed batch of fabric doesn’t meet her color requirements, she will not use it for the intended design. She is particular and meticulous and does not sway from her vision. The beautiful ball gown pictured above was love at first sight for us. … [read more]

Rare Book-First Edition-Le Fete Marriage Le Dauphin3

Today’s feature is a perfect example of how to “not judge a book by its cover.” On the outside it appears to be just another old, worn out book, but the inside shows that the art of preserving one’s wedding story has been in practice for over 250 years. We love it!

Rare Book-First Edition-Le Fete Marriage Le Dauphin (1)

This original, first edition set of two books bound together in one volume commemorates and preserves the tale of Louise’s, the Dauphin of France and son of King Louise XV, two marriages. His first was to Maria Teresa of Spain in 1745, which ended after she died three days after giving birth to their daughter in 1746. Widowed at 16, Louise then went on to marry Maria Josepha of Saxony in 1747, with whom he had seven children, one of which went on to become King Louise XVI.

Cutting and Feeding of the Cake

wedding pic801

There are  fewer parts of the entire wedding festivities that guests love more than the cutting of the cake. Next time you attend a wedding, note how many guests take a closer look at the cake. Some of the comments usually revolve around the flavors chosen, whether or not there was too much fondant used (many people don’t like fondant), and then there’s the question on whether or not the cake will be smashed into the faces of the couple by one another.

The lovely photo above depicts a young couple with their tiny cake, enough to feed 40 people, the heart-shaped topper almost as tall as the cake itself. The bride smiles to herself. Perhaps the groom fumbled with the knife a bit–we’ll never know for sure, but I doubt she had cake smashed in her face that day.

Cutting the wedding cake symbolizes the act of doing … [read more]

Santa Monica for Face Forward’s A Gatsby Affair Gala

IMG_16312Wedding Story Writer was invited to attend Face Forward‘s A Gatsby Affiar gala, held in Santa Monica, CA September 28, 2013 at The Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Gardens. Loving California the way I do, and not being able to pass up a gala benefiting victims of domestic violence, I knew I had to go.

“Dragging” along my daughter and photographer/blogger, Jaqueline Poole Martini, was also easy. She helped prepare my makeup and although I suffered a severe wardrobe malfunction, obliterating my first dress choice (a gorgeous hand-sewn crystal Theia gown) completely. Luckily, I had a back-up dress, which she helped me into. I wore a exquisite headpiece and jewelry by Bel Canto Designs.

Michelle McMurray de LucesUpon arriving at the Fairmont Miramar, we waited in a long line of limos, Porsches and other nice vehicles, beautiful women and well-dressed men stepping out of their cars dressed in their finest Gatsby era attire. … [read more]
