We love so many things about this wedding. The dress, the socks, the flowers, the cake…and the list goes on and on. Dawn and Samuel, along with their families, pulled this wedding together with the help of a few vendors in Atlanta, GA. They wanted simple and meaningful. Not only did they receive what they wished for, but was also granted beauty and elegance. From what we hear, this couple’s reception was warm and welcoming, full of family and friends who embraced their hard-working vendors, accepting them into their celebration with open arms. For any vendor, this is a dream-come-true. We wish Dawn and Samuel a lifetime of happiness, health and warmth.

Incorporating Family Heirlooms into Your Wedding

Vintage handkerchiefs for your wedding day

Over the years I have been asked many times how to incorporate family heirlooms into a wedding day, and most often the person who asked for my advice didn’t consider ideas on a smaller scale. When thinking “family heirloom,” most of us think of jewelry, furniture, and larger or more valuable items. Taking a small item and incorporating the idea of that item can be a fun way to celebrate loved ones passed on, as well as those who simply could not attend your wedding.

I carried my grandmother’s white lace handkerchief when I was married, in honor of her since she could not physically attend my wedding. I wrapped the handkerchief around the stems of my flowers and secured it with a pearl post. Take the idea a few steps further…utilize a basket full of vintage handkerchiefs, to be given out at your wedding to collect tears of joy, … [read more]

“…Everything has a past. Everything – a person, an object, a word, everything. If you don’t know the past, you can’t understand the present and plan properly for the future.”
― Chaim Potok

Embrace your past, whatever it may be. View it as a path, stepping stones that lead you to where you are today, and appreciate the wisdom you gained along the way. Life is a journey–let’s make the best of it!

Floral Wreaths in Style

Audrey Hepburn married Mel Ferrer on a lovely September day in 1954. While she may have been married in September, a flower crown is something many modern brides will be adorning their hair with year-round. Whether the flowers are freshly-cut or made out of fine materials with sparkle, we think there is not a more feminine and perfect accessory for a wedding–any season.… [read more]

Cody & Thomas

Cody & ThomasA beautiful scorching hot day, without a trace of a cloud or a momentary relief from the sun, Cody and his mate, Thomas, joined together on a June afternoon to exchange handwritten, heartfelt wedding vows, conquering the heat and officially becoming one.

Cody and Thomas wanted nothing more than the idyllic and quaint location of their home to be the locale for the commencement of their beautiful marriage, a stunning yard where Cody and Thomas devoted much of their time, in which they created, flowered, and decorated a picturesque, exceptional life together.

Upon arrival, wedding guests gathered in an ensemble of semi-formal flair. The wedding attire included summer dresses and short sleeves, as they braved the heat and hoped for a slight breeze to grace their presence. The wedding guests ventured out to the expansive yard awaiting the advent of the handsome couple. Cody and Thomas’ spacious backyard allowed the … [read more]

Rescue Flats: Wedding Favors Your Guests Will Actually Use

Courtesy Rescue Flats

It seems inevitable- by the middle of a wedding reception, almost every woman has taken off her shoes, abandoning them on a chair or under a table with disdain as that familiar ache creeps up one’s legs. We have all been there, limping around the other guests trying to avoid stepping on something sticky or questionable, sometimes to no avail.  For all of you brides-to-be trying to come up with a solution to this dilemma, Rescue Flats, created by Sara Befus, are your answer. It all started three years ago at Sara’s own October wedding. Friends and family were having a great time at the reception, dancing the night away, when she noticed that after a few hours, women were taking their shoes off or sitting down. “I thought ‘I wish I had something to give them’” Sarah said, remembering her worries that people would hurt themselves … [read more]

Designer Sareh Nouri’s Queen Victoria Gown was featured in a shoot for Engaged Magazine in February 2013 and we simply can’t stop thinking about it. Our breath literally caught in our throat’s the moment we laid eyes on such a supremely elegant gown. The delicate lace, the long sleeves perfect for cooler weather. This dress is so very Katherine Middleton! We encountered Nouri’s designs at last October’s bridal week, and she remains at the top of our list of gowns we would like to see again, and expect to be seeing on many more brides in the future. We have a rising star on our hands!

Warmly,
Julia… [read more]

Katherine & Kevin, Raleigh

Katherine & Kevin

Katherine & Kevin

Katherine lounges on the maroon fainting couch; shoes up, train spread out over the floor.  The bottom of her shoes had been autographed by the members of her wedding party, each careful and haphazard pen stroke intact despite being already scraped a bit from walking.  Her grandmother is in the room with her, an elderly woman with a sweet nature, hugging the bride.  One could tell by looking at them that they have a close relationship with one another.

Katherine asks if she needs lip gloss or anything, directing the question openly to one of her many bridesmaids.  Thunder rumbles outside and Katherine sighs, unsure as to what the weather will bring for her outdoor wedding at Haywood Hall in Raleigh, NC.  She is happy to have arrived before the rain the weather forecaster promised would come that afternoon.  As it is, the weather has delayed the … [read more]

Morgan & Mike’s October Wedding

October 8, 2011, a beautiful blue October day without a cloud in the sky. There was an ever-so-slight gentle breeze, and crisp tree leaves that were just beginning to transform into a golden yellow hue.  The suns rays shined bright, creating a friendly temperature warming the grounds for the cooler weather that was originally predicted for the day.  At the entrance of Mike and Morgan’s wedding venue, stood a giant Sally and Jack from the animated movie Nightmare Before Christmas, creating a silent greeting to guests.  A line of wedding guest cars ventured up the dusty, bumpy farm road, arriving at the wedding site one-by-one, some stopping for photo ops with the animated Jack and Sally before they pursued their final destination.  The vehicles of wedding guests were directed to park by two ushers whom were dressed in fancy, classic black and white tuxedos; an attire that was some what … [read more]
